California Ghost Town For Sale – Video 2018

When it comes to this property for sale, ‘fraidy cats need not apply: A California ghost town is on the market, and as it turns out, living amongst Casper and company will cost you close to a cool mill.

According to Real Simple, the former mining town of Cerro Gordo, or Fat Hill, currently sits on the market at an asking price of $925,000.

In its 19th century heyday, the deserted town produced the largest quantities of silver and lead in California and gained notoriety for its weekly murder count. Surely, Wild West enthusiasts won’t be scared off by that bit of unsettling history, but instead will seek to transform the more than 300 acres of land into something that honors its glory days. On the property sits 22 structures, among them an abandoned hotel, a church, the Belshaw bunkhouse and several homes, according to the appropriately named site ghosttownforsale.com.

“Held by the same family for decades and only available for purchase now,” the listing reads, noting that the expansive property has been sufficiently safeguarded against diggers, “artifact looters and Mother Nature herself.” Restoration has been undertaken on most of the buildings,” the ad continues, “and the rest are in a state of protected arrested decay.”

As real estate agent Jake Rasmuson says, potential buyers have suggested plans to revamp Cerro Gordo into a theme park or make it a part of the booming marijuana industry in an effort to help it regain the popularity it once saw before the silver and lead industries dried up.

“I would say given the owner’s history with the town and love for the town, it’s not only the price that’s important, but the future use. Quite a few individuals want to buy it to preserve the history,” Rasmuson told CNN of the once silver-saturated property.
