Fixer Upper stars Chip and Joanna Gaines are constantly growing their Magnolia empire, and that means a hefty dose of high-end real estate. But their latest property to hit the market isn’t a single-family home: Instead, the couple’s Magnolia Realty just listed a historic boutique hotel in the small town of Hico for $2.35 million.
Tucked on a corner in downtown Hico, a town of 1,300 residents nicknamed “Where Everybody is Somebody,” the hotel has been fully renovated to maintain its original integrity while embracing modern amenities. Originally opened in 1891 as the Joel Fisher’s Hotel, the property went through several name changes including the Hotel Stovall, and finally, the Midland Hotel.
A large lobby with reclaimed wood ceilings, stone walls, and exposed brick is sophisticated and welcoming, while the 14 hotel rooms embrace a unique Texas style with plenty of spots for cozying up with a good book, or enjoying the area’s natural beauty on the balcony. The hotel also has a full restaurant, The Chop House, which was originally a meat locker around the turn of the century and includes a spacious main dining room and plenty of private dining areas for events.
There’s also a lively bar, the 1896 Saloon, whose name comes from the year that a deadly fire ravaged the Hico area, killing several residents and destroying multiple buildings. The restaurant’s kitchen features top-of-the-line, brand new commercial equipment.
Chip and Joanna have definitely dipped their toes into real estate ventures that go well beyond traditional single family homes, with their popular bed & breakfast, the Magnolia House, as well as Hillcrest Estate in their hometown of Waco.
