IKEA Cheaper Delivery Fees – Fixed Rate Shipping Costs

Good news, IKEA fans. One of the most annoying things about shopping at the Swedish retailer online has just gotten way better. No more adding furniture to your cart, just to abandon ship because of those exorbitant shipping costs.

On its US homepage, IKEA is currently touting a new delivery fee policy, where large items like sofas will ship for as low as $29.

According to the service page, the flat rate fee will range from $29 to $59 and is based on “demand and distance from the closest IKEA retail store to your shipping address,” not the quantity or weight of items ordered.

One Reddit user was rejoicing over the policy change, saying the new pricing will save them $70 on delivery.

I bought a sofa from IKEA last year—three pieces from the SODERHAMN collection—and a MOLGER bench, and delivery cost me $79. Under the new policy, it would be $59 (for reference, my nearest IKEA is 20 miles away). $20 isn’t huge savings, but considering how thrilled I am when I find a crumpled fiver in my coat pocket, I wouldn’t sneeze at a free Jackson.

Meanwhile, as the retailer is making delivery easier, they’re tackling assembly, too. Last month, IKEA announced the first in-store TaskRabbit booking service would be available in two California locations, so you can have your BILLYs put together without ever touching an allen wrench.
