Reese Witherspoon knows how to turn around a dreary Friday. The actress, producer, and bookworm just announced her latest project, and it’s an amazing one: Witherspoon is partnering with Kerry Washington to adapt Celeste Ng’s Little Fires Everywhere into a miniseries.
Witherspoon has already proven that she can take great stories and turn them into award-winning shows—if you haven’t seen HBO’s Big Little Lies, what are you waiting for?—and she’s also emerged as a social media tastemaker when it comes to the buzziest books. Her Instagram-led book club has championed a diverse range of authors and stories, and many of her picks have become instant bestsellers, including The Light We Lost by Jill Santopolo and The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman. In fact, Ng’s bestselling Little Fires Everywhere was Witherspoon’s September book club pick!
The novel, one of my favorites of 2017, takes place in a small suburb of Cleveland, Ohio, and looks at the complicated relationships between mothers and daughters, as well as a community divided by a controversial international adoption. Both a coming-of-age story and a layered look at motherhood, Little Fires Everywhere has so many rich characters, and we can’t wait to see who Witherspoon and Washington have in mind for the cast.
This is the latest project for Witherspoon’s successful production company, Hello Sunshine, which has announced several other exciting adaptations, including Curtis Sittenfeld’s You Think It I’ll Say It with Kristen Wiig as the star.
